How to sew a bra – Step 5.1: Cutting – Before cutting

Because there are many pieces in one bra, cutting them all is a bit tedious job. I’ve split the cutting chapter into several small posts. This one will prepare you for cutting all bra pieces.

I’ve talked in a previous post about different fabrics I’ll be using for this bra. Also, I have explained bra parts and layers. I am using my bra pattern.

For the band and cradle, I chose the H-set (H1, H2) pieces because I’ll be using a 2-hook closure. I’m using both set pieces for the cup: F1-F3 for foam and lining, C1-C3 for lace. Notice here the differences between F-set and C-set of pattern pieces for cups:

For cutting you can use shears or the cutting mat with a rotary cutter, it’s your choice.

Before laying pieces on the fabric you have to inspect the fabric. You need to find where is the DOGS line. This is very important because we need to align pattern pieces with DOGS line.
