How to sew a bra – Step 8.1: Sewing the band – Preparing the cradle

Before assembling the band we need to stabilize (prepare) the cradle. The cradle is the fixed part that offers most of the support.

You should have two pieces: one that was cut from lace and the other is your underlining. Remove pattern paper pieces.

Unfold lace piece and place with the right side down (the wrong side is facing you).

Unfold your underling. You have to arrange it exactly on your lace piece. But! If you use fusible interfacing, place the side with the glue to touch the lace. If it is a simple non-stretch mesh place with the wrong side facing you, just like we did to the lace.

Detail.

Now, based on your type or underlining, the next step is different.

For fusible underlining, you just press it using your iron. Do not forget to cover your pieces with a scrap of cotton. Touching your fabrics with the iron directly may ruin your work.

For simple non-stretch mesh, you’ll have to join lace and interfacing with a normal stitch. Stitch around at 4-5 mm from the edge.

And the cradle is ready.
