Every woman has her own shape, but most of these shapes can be classified under a few common shapes. I will state the shapes of my interest. These are:

  • the hourglass shape
  • the pear or the triangle shape
  • the inverted triangle shape
  • the rectangle shape
  • the apple or rounded shape
  • the diamond shape

The hourglass shape is considered the perfect shape – but very few of us have it. This is normal. Most of the women have a pear-shaped body. I’ve come to this conclusion since most of the pattern companies release their patterns for this kind of body. Women with other shapes must alter the patterns. Some shapes make few alterations, other shapes must alter quite a lot.

The apple and diamond shape usually applies to plus-size women. At a first glance, these two shapes are the same, but there are subtle differences: the apple shape has curved body lines and a full bust, that’s why it is also called the round shape; while the diamond shape is more rigid with fat deposits that are prominent around the high waist.
