Testing Maya Bra Pattern – exhibit nr 6

I think dark colors have a more luxurious look, while soft/pale colors are more feminine. I actually love both categories And more important, every woman must have dark AND soft colored bras.

I love black or blue bras. It was time to test the Maya pattern for some variations. With both: black and blue!

Maya cup was designed with some ideas for future alterations. It is meant to be altered to obtain some styles. This was one of the biggest secrets I’ve kept hiding from you.

We all wear on an everyday basis a normal bra with full or almost full coverage. But can we stop for a moment and think how, inspecting lingerie shops, our eyes always look for unique pieces of bras?! Yes, demi-cups, plunge bras are so beautiful!

Maya can’t cover all the styles. No bra pattern can! As no bra pattern can fit all the shapes! But there are some variations you can get from Maya. I’ve never tested the pattern for variations.

The moment I saw Maddy’s luxury bra in velvet and lace, I knew, the time has come to try some of the styles I had planned long ago. You all know Maya’s a 3-piece cup. All the alterations are to be made to upper piece. On some styles, you’ll also need to alter the cradle. For my first Maya variation, I chose to replace the upper piece completely and use lace:

The bottom pieces are made of foam. Inside, the cup is covered with knit cotton. The right side is not covered, this is why I covered the seams with satin ribbons.

Changing Maya style was not the only plan I had for this bra. I wanted to try a new technique for bra band. And I wanted once more to try and use elastics with silicon straps. Have you tried sewing one? It’s a nightmare.

I tried some tricks to sew this elastic. And I can say they do NOT work! But I developed one that works pretty good. Someone interested? And, yeah, I have some reserves about Teflon foot. I do not have one, that’s the only method I haven’t tried yet. When I get my hands on one, will try again and report back. But I love elastics with silicon bands. They stick so nice to the body. Usually elastics with silicon do not have a scalloped edge. But I like beautiful edges on the band. So I used a technique to cover the edges with lace.

But enough talk. Let’s admire the (almost) finished bra.

What are my thoughts on the bra?

  • I LOVE the band! That’s the plus side.
  • On the negative side, having the upper cup made only from lace, the shape is beautiful, but it does not offer support. The cup feels more like one from a soft bra. Despite this, the bra is wearable and I’ll be wearing it a lot:)
  • This was my first test on Maya variations. I can not recommend for you to try a similar bra.
  • I already have plans for demi-cups. You can be sure that, when I get to the right cup, I’ll post a full tutorial!
