My newly released pattern – Afi Elegance – comes with fully illustrated instructions for two styles. One basic, and one fancy. As always, there are very detailed steps to put either of those two styles together. But this pattern is your perfect block pattern.
What’s a block? It’s a base pattern you know fits and works well for you. And from that block pattern, you can create many more designs.
Don’t you want something more from a pattern? Don’t you want to make it your own style and colors? I’ve seen so many awesome changes made to my other patterns. And I bet many more would dive into that. So, I decided to include in the pattern booklet a very special chapter – Design more styles – to boost your imagination and creativity.

Design more styles chapter
The chapter shows how to hack the pattern and create another additional 10 more styles (style elements). The instructions provide suggestions on fabric and brief notes on sewing. Don’t worry, the changes to the pattern pieces are rather simple. But before you try them out, I strongly recommend you sew one of the basic styles and get to know the pattern. And when you feel confident, know what lines go where, and how notches come together, you’re ready to devour the styles.
I split the styles in two. The easiest is lace overlays designs. This is where you only slash some pieces, cut them carefully from lace placed on the scalloped edge, play with color and ta-da, some very cool effects.
A more interesting part is where you start changing pattern lines, removing or adding some seams to create some of the most iconic designs. Full powerbar, the ever so known straight neckline are among them. With carefully placed notches and lines on the pattern pieces, and with the instructions you will be able to carry on and modify the pattern yourself.
Afi Elegance with a full powerbar
For a quick demo about one of the styles included in the Design more styles chapter, I chose to make the well-known style – a full power bar. This design is fantastic for almost any breast shape. The powerbar directs the tissue to the front offering great stability.
Remove the bottom seam allowance on the A1 piece. Then, arrange the bottom corners of the A1 piece to match the corner and notch number 4 on the A3 piece. It’s no problem if the barely visible curve overlaps. Tape the pieces together. Then take a ruler and prolong the DOGS line from top to bottom on the A3 piece. Mark the point of intersection with the wire curve. Then join notch number 4 with this new marked point with a straight line. Having this straight line as your guide, draw a curve to split the A3 piece. Don’t forget to add the seam allowances. And there you have it, a new cup style!
Sewing this style is just a tad different. First, you construct the cup with all the pieces except the powerbar. And in the end, you add the powerbar.
To spice up my bra I have added this small strap detail. And this is my changed Afi Elegance bra with that beautifully curved seam line powerbar.

I have purchased this pattern but haven’t sewn it yet; I hope to begin this evening after work! I love your patterns; they fit me so well, with hardly any adjustments required!
